CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS SEEMED MORE SEVERE AMONG PATIENTS WITH ANTIBODY 4-FOLD OR A GREATER INCREASE IN TITER BOTH AGAINST pH1N1 AND AGAINST SEASONAL INFLUENZA THAN THOSE WHOSE ANTIBODY 4-FOLD OR GREATER INCREASE IN TITER WAS ONLY AGAINST ONE TYPE OF SEASONAL INFLUENZA

چکیده
In 2009, after an emergence of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) (pH1N1), one of our serological investigations showed 23 students whose paired serum antibodies simultaneously presented 4-fold or greater increase in titer both against pH1N1 and against seasonal influenza (SI). This caught our attention and in order to further understand clinical features of these cases, a case control study was conducted. From October 2009 to September 2012, we collected the acute and convalescent phase serum samples from patients whose throat swabs were positive for pH1N1 or SI by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The patients’ information, including clinical symptoms, selfprotect measures, and social activities after illness, was also collected through inspecting medical records, and interviewing face to face or by telephone.

Seroprevalence of Pandemic H1N1 Antibody among Health Care Workers in Hong Kong Following Receipt of Monovalent 2009 H1N1 Influenza Vaccine
BACKGROUND Healthcare workers in many countries are recommended to receive influenza vaccine to protect themselves as well as patients. A monovalent H1N1 vaccine became available in Hong Kong in December 2009 and around 10% of local healthcare workers had received the vaccine by February 2010. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study of the prevalence of antibody to pandemic (H1N1) 2009 a...

BACKGROUND Studies indicate that asymptomatic infections do indeed occur frequently for both seasonal and pandemic influenza, accounting for about one-third of influenza infections. Studies carried out during the 2009 pH1N1 pandemic have found significant antibody response against seasonal H1N1 and H3N2 vaccine strains in schoolchildren receiving only pandemic H1N1 monovalent vaccine, yet repor...
متن کاملInfluenza A (H1N1) 2009 Antibodies in Residents of New South Wales, Australia, after the First Pandemic Wave in the 2009 Southern Hemisphere Winter
BACKGROUND The first wave of pandemic influenza A(H1N1)2009 (pH1N1) reached New South Wales (NSW), Australia in May 2009, and led to high rates of influenza-related hospital admission of infants and young to middle-aged adults, but no increase in influenza-related or all-cause mortality. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS To assess the population rate of pH1N1 infection in NSW residents, pH1N1-sp...
متن کاملComparison of Immune Response by Virus Infection and Vaccination to 2009 Pandemic Influenza A/H1N1 in Children
We aimed to compare the immune response induced by natural infection with 2009 pandemic influenza A/H1N1 (pH1N1) virus and by monovalent pH1N1 vaccination in children and adolescents. This cross-sectional clinical study was conducted at 3 hospitals in Korea from February to May 2010. A total of 266 healthy subjects aged from 6 months to 18 yr were tested for the presence of the antibody against...
متن کاملA Contributing Role for Anti-Neuraminidase Antibodies on Immunity to Pandemic H1N1 2009 Influenza A Virus
BACKGROUND Exposure to contemporary seasonal influenza A viruses affords partial immunity to pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza A virus (pH1N1) infection. The impact of antibodies to the neuraminidase (NA) of seasonal influenza A viruses to cross-immunity against pH1N1 infection is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS Antibodies to the NA of different seasonal H1N1 influenza strains were tested for cross-r...
